Grioting
report on the culture of African griots, storytellers of ancestral tales who are the repositories of all the knowledge and traditions in several African countries. Based on a play in the Tantarantana theatre, it creates a story with various African immigrants in Barcelona as the central characters. They are people who carry their ancestors’ roots and express them through various art forms such as music, dance and oral storytelling. Technically interesting because of its dynamic, sombre and very striking montage. The interviews are mixed with the play and the lives of some of the actors in Barcelona. It is a mosaic of sounds, images, characters and stories that are intertwined to give the report a coherent meaning.
Second television report in a series of three (Musical Languages, Grioting and Everything for coexistence) as part of the programme of the “Postgraduate Diploma in Television Reporting” taken at the IDEC in 2003. A production by Cibele Haas with special acknowledgements to Rui, who gave us all the access to the characters and his wisdom.
